Trama[]

La serie ci introduce nel mondo brutale e misterioso di Ragnar Lothbrok, un guerriero e agricoltore vichingo che desidera esplorare - e fare saccheggi - verso le lontane rive dell'oceano. La sua ambizione lo mette in contrasto con il capo locale, Conte Haraldson, che insiste nel mandare i suoi guerrieri verso est piuttosto che nell'ovest inesplorato. Quando Ragnar si allea con il suo amico costruttore di barche Floki per creare una nuova generazione di intrepide navi in grado di conquistare i mari del nord, il palcoscenico è pronto per il conflitto.

Ma nonostante tutta la guerra e spargimento di sangue, i Vichinghi sono anche una storia di famiglia e fratellanza, che catturano l'amore e l'affetto tra Ragnar e sua moglie, Lagertha, una feroce Shield-maiden. È la storia del fratello di Ragnar, Rollo, un combattente feroce che ribolle con gelosia; della moglie del Conte Haraldson Siggy, una bellezza doverosa che può essere meno che leale; e del monaco Athelstan, la cui morale cristiana si scontra con la società pagana dei vichinghi. Mentre ambizione e innovazione scuotono la civiltà, questi personaggi saranno messi alla prova e il loro modo di vivere non sarà più lo stesso.

Meanwhile in Kattegat, with a plague taking its toll on the village, the people look to Lagertha to help appease the gods.
